Dyson Airblade Invention Story
It started with the development of the DC12. There was a need for a smaller canister vacuum for the Asian market. This led to the creation of the Dyson digital motor, which was more efficient, reliable, and smaller than traditional motors. As rotors passed along the Dyson digital motor production line, they were dried using air knives – high intensity sheets of air that scraped water from the parts like a windshield wiper. A Dyson engineer noticed this and wondered if the industrial sheets of air could be used to dry anything else. The combination of the air knives with the Dyson digital motor created a hand dryer with great power and efficiency. The machine generated 420 mph sheets of air used to dry hands, opposed to traditional warm air hand dryers that relied on evaporation. The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer was born.
Airblade™ technology has evolved
Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers are powered by the Dyson digital motor V4 – its small size and power density are what have made our hand dryer technology possible. It means you’ll now find a quiet, hands-under dryer, a hands-in machine that works in just 10 seconds1 and even one that dries hands at the sink. All Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have a touch free operation and a HEPA filter as standard.
Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry hand dryer
Airblade™ hand drying technology in a tap. Dry hands at the sink in just 14 seconds.2 Three models available. There is no need for users to move to a separate drying area, eliminating water on the floor and freeing up valuable wall and floor space. All Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have a touch free operation and a HEPA filter as standard.
The fastest energy-efficient HEPA–filtered hand dryer.1 The Dyson Airblade 9kJ is our quietest6 Airblade™ hand dryer yet. The dryer uses 9.1 kilojoules of energy per dry and costs just $19 a year to run in Eco mode.4 All Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have a touch free operation and a HEPA filter as standard.
Engineered for hygienic performance. Designed for compact spaces. Protruding only 4 inches, it complies with ADA guidelines without additional recessing costs. All Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have a touch free operation and a HEPA filter as standard.
Fast hygienic hand dryer, with a HEPA filter as standard. The Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer is made from durable ABS polycarbonate and has been tested to withstand the pressure of high footfall, high usage restrooms. It has been approved for use in food preparation environments by HACCP International, making it safe for the food sector. All Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers have a touch free operation and a HEPA filter as standard.
1Dry time and energy consumption calculated for Max mode. Dry time was determined using Dyson test method 769 based on NSF P335 to a measurement of 0.1 g residual moisture.
2Dry time determined using Dyson test method 769 based on NSF P335 using a measurement of 0.1g residual moisture.
3HEPA filter tested to IEST-RP-CC001.6, by an independent testing laboratory, under prescribed test conditions.
4Average electricity price $0.1/kWh as of May 2019. For calculations visit www.dyson.com/calcs.
5The environmental impact of electrical appliances and paper towels was measured by Carbon Trust. The calculations were produced using the software Footprint Expert Pro, based on product use over 5 years and using weighted averages of individual countries of use. Dry times for product were evaluated using DTM 769.
